Fork Union Military Academy welcomes Ryan Campbell to its staff as the new Aquatics Director and Swim Coach beginning in August 2015, overseeing the school's multi-million dollar pool facility and state championship swimming and diving team.

"We received applications literally from around the world," said Academy president RADM J. Scott Burhoe, "with candidates from Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Hawaii, Florida, Texas...and we found the perfect match right next door in Ryan Campbell. We look forward to having him as a key member of the Fork Union community."

Campbell has served the past several years within both the Madison County and Orange County schools. Most recently, he was the Director of Technology for the Madison County Public Schools. Prior to that, he taught business, including economics and personal finance, at the high school level in Orange County. In addition to his teaching duties, Campbell was Orange County's head swim coach, growing the program from nineteen swimmers to over forty team members in two years, and producing an All-American swimmer and several swimmers honored as Academic All-Americans. He is certified by the American Swim Coaches Association and a member of the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association. He has experience as a coaching member of USA Swimming and has worked in the past with our Fork Union Aquatic Club and the Battlefield Area Star Swimmers in running stroke clinics, swim camps, and practices.

Coach Chris VanSlooten, who is departing Fork Union to accept his "dream" position after his successful five years at the Academy, says of Ryan Campbell, "It would be difficult to find a better suited individual to take the reins of our aquatics center. He and I have been friends for over five years. He brings a wealth of knowledge, as well as a true passion for swimming and mentoring youth to Fork Union Military Academy. I am confident that under Ryan's leadership the young men will grow in integrity and excellence, and the aquatics center will continue to flourish."

Campbell was himself a varsity swimmer at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, achieving All-American honors in the 200 breaststroke, and earning his Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems in 2003.

Following college, Campbell served as a Battalion Intelligence Officer with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, Special Troops Battalion, of the 10th Mountain Division throughout a seventeen-month deployment to Afghanistan. Campbell also served as coach and swimmer with the US Military Pentathlon Team in 2001 and 2004.

Completing his teaching licensure requirements in 2012 at Mary Baldwin College, Campbell earned his Master's degree in Instructional Technology from Virginia Tech in 2014.
