Post Gurdaspur attack, Indo-Pak border on high alert

JAISALMER/JAIPUR: Security has been beefed up along the Indo-Pak border in the state and Border Security Force (BSF) has been put on high alert following the terror attack in Punjab's Gurdaspur. The state police headquarters has also sounded high alert and directed all range IGs and SPs to be extra vigilant about any suspicious activities at public places.
BSF sources said as soon as the reports of Gurdaspur terror attack started coming in, special vigil was put in place particularly in border areas in Sriganganagar adjoining Punjab. Looking at the possibility of Ghaghar river water flooding some BSF outposts due to heavy rains, necessary precautions have been taken so that infiltrators can not take advantage of the situation.
BSF Rajasthan frontier spokesperson DIG Ravi Gandhi confirming the high alert said after the terror attack at Gurdaspur, BSF is on high alert and is guarding the county's border.
Sources said BSF Rajasthan frontier headquarters organized a high level meeting chaired by IG B R Meghwal. Spokesperson Gandhi said that order has been given to strictly deal with any untoward or undesired activities at the border, patrolling has been increased and additional security personnel have been deployed at the tough and sensitive areas. Camel patrolling, foot patrolling and vehicle patrolling has been increased.
Gandhi said that guarding has been intensified and security arrangement has been strengthened especially at the Ganganagar border adjoining Punjab.
Rajasthan ATS has also sounded alert. "All district administration officials and IGs and SPs of various districts have been directed to ensure patrolling in sensitive places. The intelligence has also been alerted at local levels," said a senior police officer.
Police officials have also been asked to check crowded places like cinema halls, malls, buses and railway stations. Policemen in civilian clothes are also being deputed at sensitive places to keep a watch on any suspicious activity.
"All the range IGs and SPs, and ATS have been alerted and given necessary directions to strengthen security after the attack in Punjab," DGP, Manoj Bhatt said, adding, important public places are under strict vigil.
