Rain disrupts rail, road traffic in many districts

JAIPUR/UDAIPUR: Unabated rain across the state since Saturday took a toll on the road and rail connectivity on Monday. North Western Railways (NWR) on Monday cancelled nine trains including five in Samdari-Biladi section and four on Udaipur-Ahmedabad route. Likewise, many bus routes on Baran-Kota, Sirohi-Jalore and Barmer-Munabao routes also got disconnected due to heavy rainfall.
Commutation remained affected in areas including Benswar Dham in Dungarpur district following increase in water level. "Commutation became a problem for people living near Kesarpura-Ramdwara bridge due to incessant rains as water was overflowing near the bridge," said a senior officer.
In Udaipur, roads of villages in the remotest Kotra block were cut off after heavy rains hit Devala, Panarwa region. Villages adjoining the Gujarat border are also facing a flood threat as the heavy flow in Sabarmati river recorded an intake of 2 metres in a single day.
Three panchayats under Bekariya police station have been badly affected by the rains with commutation impeded in Mewaro ka Mathh, Dang and Tejawas gram panchayats.
Following heavy rainfall in Jalore and Barmer districts on Monday, NWR cancelled 9 trains. "Due to water logging at Samdari-Bhiladi route we decided to cancel 5 trains. The trains including Jodhpur-Bhiladi and Bhiladi-Jodhpur will remain cancelled on Tuesday. Likewise, the passenger train between Barmer-Munabao will also remain cancelled till further orders," said an NWR official. Also, due to the hilly route the NWR decided to cancel 4 trains running between Udaipur and Ahmedabad.
Private bus operators and Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) have also stopped plying their buses in the interiors of Jhalawar, Jalore, Barmer, Sirohi, Rajsamand and other districts of the state.
Likewise, in villages including Aklera, Dug and Manoharthana the road route was badly affected due to the incessant rainfall since Saturday. "The road route between Baran and Jhalawar is also affected due to the torrential rainfall in Jhalawar and Baran districts of the state," said an official.
