New paediatrics department building of IMS-BHU inaugurated

The new building of department of paediatrics, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (IMS-BHU) was inaugurated on Monday.

VARANASI: The new building of department of paediatrics, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (IMS-BHU) was inaugurated on Monday.
HoD Ashok Kumar said that the four-storied building was constructed at the cost of Rs 10 crores. The OPD and paediatrics ICU is situated on the ground floor, which also houses a 10-bed nursery for treatment of infants.
A 10-bed high dependency unit (HDU) has also been set up.
On the second floor of the building, stands a super-specialty block, where children suffering from cancer and kidney-related diseases as well as neurological diseases would be treated. A research lab equipped with advanced equipment and mechanism has been established on the third floor, which also has rooms for teachers and separate room for doctors. Both the floors are centrally air-conditioned and equipped with elevators.
This is the first well-equipped paediatric department in any medical college of the country.
The pediatric department was established in 1965 and had celebrated its golden jubilee in April this year. Presently, there are seven professors, three assistant professors and 24 resident doctors.
