A taxi driver was found in a pool of his own blood after being beaten up by an angry couple who refused to clean up their own vomit.

The driver, who asked not to be named, had picked up the pair from near Harrods in central London before dropping them off in Kensington with them accepting the £20 fare.

Just as the couple were walking off, the veteran driver noticed the woman had been sick in the back of his cab and asked they pay a £45 spoilage fee or clean it themselves.

The cabbie couldn’t remember what happened next, but woke up in a pool of his own blood several minutes later.

Detective Constable Simon Jewell, of Kensington and Chelsea CID, said: ‘The victim’s injuries are consistent with having been repeatedly kicked or punched in the head.

‘This would appear to be a vicious attack on a 62-year-old man who has only recently been able to return to work.

‘We are appealing to anyone who can help us identify the couple, a white man and a woman in their early 20s, who caught the cab in the early hours on Monday, 26 January from the vicinity of Brompton Square to Lower Addison Gardens.’
