Maoist to observe martyr's week, alert in Chattisgarh

Soon after Maoists disrupted goods wagon at Kaklur station in Bastar on Saturday, Maoists have announced of observing martyrs week (shaheedi saptah) from July 28 to August 3, in memory of their slain leaders.

RAIPUR: Soon after Maoists disrupted goods wagon at Kaklur station in Bastar on Saturday, Maoists have announced of observing martyrs week (shaheedi saptah) from July 28 to August 3, in memory of their slain leaders.
Leaving posters and banners in large numbers in villages of Bijapur, Kondagaon including NH 16, NH 30 and other neighbouring districts, ultras have asked locals to observe the week and make it a success.

Adopting Maoists' style, Bastar police have also appealed locals residents through slogans and wall writings not to support martyrs week. Appealing to protest martyr's week, messages were seen written on cattle's bodies, walls and posters saying, "Naxali shaheed nahi hatyare hai (Maoists aren't martyrs but murderers." Police intends to spread the message among people wherever cattle frequents to and aim of openly protesting would indicate support of police to villagers, an officer told TOI.
On the other hand, police department has sounded alert across the state, preparing all SPs for stepping up security. While security has been beefed up in insurgent Bastar region, combing operations in interiors of all seven districts will also be intensified to prevent untoward incidents in the region. Jawans of Central Reserve Police Force, Chhattisgarh Armed Force, Special Task Force and others have been alerted to be updated with every movement taking place in their regions.
Meanwhile, the only train plying between Visakhapatnam and Kirandul Passenger will remain cancelled on July 28 and the cancellation may extend till August 2 due to security reasons. Though the train may run between Jagdalpur and Visakhapatnam but won't move beyond the scheduled stations, police said adding that commuters may have to travel by bus from Jagdalpur to Kirandul.
Police sources said that during the week, Maoists in memory of slain leaders killed by security forces, observe cultural programs, meetings and recruitment drives.
