Drunk man takes off in car while drunk friend takes breath test: cops

This designated-driver plan was a total bust.

A drunken Queens man was stopped for speeding in Vermont early Sunday — and as he stood on the shoulder taking his breath test, his equally drunk pal jumped behind the wheel and drove off, cops said.

Now both men have been charged in the same traffic stop with drunken driving in the same car, according to officials.

And a search of their vehicle car turned up 79 oxycodone pills, about 50 Percocet pills and marijuana, cops said.

Vermont police say the first driver, Erik Polite, 35, of Flushing, was clocked doing 106 mph on Interstate 91 in Rockingham.

Polite had 10 grams of coke on him, cops said.

As Polite was blowing an alleged .19 on his breath test — well over the .08 limit — his pal Leeshawn Baker, 34, also of Flushing, allegedly hopped from the back seat into the driver’s seat and tried to take off.

But he put the car into reverse, causing the vehicle to narrowly miss smashing the cop car before crossing two lanes of traffic and slamming into the median.

Baker’s blood-alcohol level was 0.25.

Polite and Baker were charged with DUI and drug possession. They were locked up at the Southern State Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.
