Chris Froome says a bid for back-to-back grand tour titles "could be on the cards" as he considers following up his Tour de France victory by riding the Vuelta a Espana.
The 30-year-old is back in Britain after his Tour win – his second following his 2013 triumph – was confirmed in Paris on Sunday.
He has been encouraged by Team Sky team principal Sir Dave Brailsford to "live in the moment" and lap up his success after several months of preparation, rather than look too far ahead.
Froome is yet to make a decision on whether he will compete in Spain, where he was the runner-up last year and in 2011, as well as fourth in 2012.
But with the race starting in Puerto Banus on August 22, he is likely to make a call one way or the other in the coming days.
Only two men – Jacques Anquetil in 1963 and Bernard Hinault 15 years later – have done the Tour-Vuelta double.
Froome, speaking exclusively on Sky Sports News HQ, said: "I would say it’s a bit early to say 100 per cent, but I think that could potentially be on the cards, certainly.
"I know it would be a massive challenge to back it up with another grand tour now, especially to go there with the aim of going for the general classification again.
"But yeah, that’s at the back of the mind and maybe that could be on the cards."
Froome admits the huge effort required to win in France has taken its toll and added: "It’s not only just the Tour, it’s the whole build-up to it.
"We spend months and months just doing every little thing right and getting every little detail right to try to get to the Tour in the best shape possible.
"It’s going to be great now just to switch off for a few days. I just had a bacon butty this morning and it felt fantastic just to have something I haven’t had in many months."
