‘NPCIL proposes 1,400 MW nuclear plant in Mandla’
INDORE: Graduation function of the fifteenth batch of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) training school was organized at Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, Indore (RRCAT) here on Sunday.
Certificates were given away to seven training scientific officers (TSOs) and seventeen PhD and MTech students. Addressing the gathering, chairman, Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), Ratan Kumar Sinha said, “It is necessary for the students to inculcate imagination.
Knowledge is the most significant asset which inspires one to achieve great things in life, but imagination will help you create an identity for yourself and learn in a better way”.
“Young generation should come forward and look for the development taking place in the field of nuclear power. Department of atomic energy is working on new technologies. Youngsters should explore new opportunities to learn,” he added. Speaking about the misconceptions that nuclear radiations are harmful, “There is no need to fear from the radiations. Whenever a plant is set-up there is complete security and proper safety measures are taken. Upcoming nuclear projects in the country would be contributing a big share in the power generation,” Sinha said.
Addressing a press conference, he said, “Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) has proposed to build a 1,400 MW nuclear power plant at Chutka, Mandla district. This will be extremely beneficial for the state.” Claiming that nuclear energy is a big contributor for power generation, Sinha said, “3.5% of the power generation is by nuclear energy. Around 5780 megawatt (MW) is produced by nuclear energy. This is a great resource of energy and the misconceptions about radiation should be eradicated.”
A programme to mark completion of 60 years of atomic energy department took place at RRCAT. Diamond Jubilee Park was also inaugurated on the occasion. The BARC Training School at RRCAT Indore is affiliated to Homi Bhabha National Institute, a deemed university which has been accredited with A grade by NAAC.
