Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the corruption allegations in Lokayukta, have picked up Y. Ashwin, the prime accused in the case, for questioning from his native place in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

Ashwin is the son of Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao. Ashwin’s questioning comes hours after the arrest of Syed Riyaz, Joint Commissioner, Lokayukta in connection with the case.

>Lokayukta police had filed an FIR naming Ashwin as the prime accused in the case on July 1, which was later transferred to SIT.

The complainant M.N. Krishnamurthy had alleged that he met Ashwin Rao in Lokayukta office on May 4, when he demanded a bribe of Rs. one crore and threatened to fix him with a raid if did not pay.

SIT investigation till now has revealed that while there were two gangs hounding Govt officials, they were co-ordinated by Syed Riyaz and Ashwin Rao. Ashwin Rao has emerged as the kingpin of the racket during the probe, SIT officials said.
