KOLKATA: BJP central leadership is ready to give its Bengal unit some time relaxation regarding completion of Maha sampark Abhiyaan (membership drive). Central leadership has instructed the state unit to contact all those 43 lakh people who had given missed calls to become party members.
The membership drive was launched in the state on July 1 and the first training for newly recruited members is supposed to take place in September. Before that the state unit will have to meet personally all these 43 lakh people and hand them over the membership forms and ge those filled up by aspirant per sons.

But till July 22, state BJP unit has managed to get in touch with 43,876 persons of those 43 lakh who had given missed calls to become members of the saffron brigade. Realising that the task of meeting all these 43 lakh people by August 31 would be an impossible proposition, party's central leadership has recently given an indication that Bengal unit will get some time relaxation in completing its target of meeting 43 lakh people.

BJP national secretary and co observer of the Bengal unit Siddharth Nath Singh told ET on Sunday that "we have just been able to segregate the data (about 43 lakh people) based on postal pin code of these persons provided by them. We were occupied with Mograhat dharna and our district units are still busy organising protest demonstrations against lawlessness and fighting for the safety of women. So the central BJP leadership has given certain time relaxation to the Bengal state unit unlike other states."
