KHUZDAR: A clash was averted between two groups and 10 people were arrested in Zehri tehsil of Khuzdar district on Saturday, official sources said.

Armed men from two sub-clans took position against each other and the stand-off over a dispute continued until Deputy Commissioner Syed Abdul Waheed Shah along with a contingent of Levies reached there in an attempt to defuse the situation.

When the armed men did not vacate their positions, the deputy commissioner ordered security personnel to take action against them. The Levies cordoned off the area and took 10 men from both sides into custody.

A Levies official said initial investigation showed the arrested people were involved in various crimes and wanted by the police and Levies. Some of them had been declared proclaimed offenders.

Six of those arrested were identified as Manzoor Ahmed, Abdul Samad, Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Bashir Ahmed and Abdul Hameed.

The Levies registered a case against members of both the groups. One of the Levies men was suspended for being negligent in performance of his duty.
