The Tamil Nadu State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Saraswathi Rangasamy inspected several private schools in the district on Thursday.

She was accompanied by Inspector of Matriculation Schools R. Geetha and several other School Education Department officials.

According to officials, she inspected the private school’s records on admissions made under the Right To Education (RTE) Act, which mandated them to set aside 25 per cent of their total seats to children from disadvantaged groups.

She also inspected the schools to ascertain if they had adequate basic amenities such as toilets, drinking water and other infrastructure.

She pointed out a few shortcomings in some of the schools and directed the authorities concerned to rectify them.

The schools were warned that action would be initiated if any lacunae were found in the follow-up inspections.

She inspected a couple of private matriculation schools and an equal number of schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education and nursery schools.
