Here is a good news for the commuters on the National Highway-1. The 70-km-long stretch of road between Mukerba Chowk in Delhi and Panipat would soon be widened to 12-lane. The road was earlier proposed to be made eight-lane.
The widening of the road has been approved by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari at a meeting with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi.
Haryana Finance Minister Capt. Abhimanyu and Public Works Department (Building and Roads) Minister Rao Narbir Singh were also present.
To be widened at a cost of Rs. 2128.72, the road would have 17 minor bridges, 10 new flyovers, and 15 major road junctions.
The major road junctions would be linked with main roads without affecting the traffic. Sonipat Lok Sabha Member Ramesh Chander Kaushik said the construction work on the road would commence in the next two months.
No diversion
Mr. Kaushik said that the road from Delhi to Panipat would have service lanes on both sides. There would be no diversion anywhere on the road.
He said that under this project, the old four-lane bridges developed on Murthal, Ganaur and Samalkha would be expanded. He said that the State government and the Central government are committed to fast development. With the transformation of national highway into express highway, the problem of traffic jams would be resolved. The ongoing development projects of Haryana were also reviewed in the meeting.
Mr. Kaushik said that Meerut to Jind and Kharkhoda-Jhajjar road had been upgraded to national highways. Soon under this project, bypass of Sonipat, Gohana and Jind would be constructed.
Network of roads
He said that for the development of any area, the strong network of roads was of foremost importance.
He said that the railway station of Sonepat was being developed as a model station. Besides this, the work on Gohana-Jind Railway line was in the last phase of construction and would be open for traffic flow by November.
