Security has been tightened in Mysuru city for the visit of President Pranab Mukherjee, who is scheduled to inaugurate the centenary celebrations of the University of Mysore on Monday.

The President, who is scheduled to arrive at Mysuru airport by a special flight from New Delhi at 1.50 p.m., will be visiting Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hills at 2.15 p.m. before inaugurating the yearlong centenary celebrations of the University of Mysuru at the amphitheatre in Manasagangothri at 3 p.m.

Mr. Mukherjee will be received by Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala and Chief Minister Siddaramiah at the airport. The President, accompanied by Mr. Siddaramaiah, is scheduled to depart from Mysuru airport at 5.05 p.m. by a special flight to Bengaluru. Briefing presspersons about the President’s visit to Mysuru, City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda said as many as 1,400 police personnel, including 10 platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) force, 10 platoons of the City Armed Reserve (CAR), and 40 commandoes had been deployed to provide security during Mr. Mukherjee’s visit to the city on Monday.

As Mysuru City Police does not have bomb disposal squad, a team from Bengaluru has arrived, he said. “All security arrangements are in place”, he added.Meanwhile, the City Police conducted a security drill along the route of the President’s travel on Sunday. City Police, KSRP, CAR and District Police officials were part of the drill that was conducted along the road to Chamundi Hills from Mysuru airport, and on the road leading to the amphitheatre in Manasagangothri.
