The Changanassery Taluk Legal Service Society is set to launch a campaign to turn Changanassery municipality 100 per cent legal literate. The campaign being taken up with the active involvement of municipal authorities and the bar association will be implemented in a phased manner and cover all the 37 wards in the municipal area.
The campaign will formally get under way on Wednesday, July 29, and is expected to conclude by mid-September, said Vijimol, secretary, Changnassery Taluk Legal Service Society. According to her, the wards will be clustered into 11 beats and separate teams, which will have at least one advocate in charge, will take up awareness classes.
In addition, there will be legal literacy committees functioning under the respective ward member.
The campaign will focus on eight areas covering traffic rules, domestic violence laws, provisions in marriage laws, prevention of food adulteration rules, environment laws, and rules covering rights of senior citizens etc.
The study material has been prepared by a group of senior advocates of the Changanassery Bar. The material is based on the handbook Niyama Padom prepared by the Kerala State Legal Service Authority (KELSA) as part of the national legal literacy mission.
After the first phase of awareness creation, the campaign will move over to a counselling mode which will test the effectiveness of the first phase, through a questionnaire covering a random sample of people who attended the classes.
