CHENNAI: Unitech flat buyers protested delay in construction of their homes on Saturday in Nallambakkam (7km from Vandalur) in front of the project site, Uniworld City. The township project that includes 3,000 flats on a 250-acre land involves about 1,024 2BHK and 600 3BHK flats, of which most of them were to be completed by 2011.
The 700sqft 2BHKs and 950sqft 3BHKs are being sold at 26 lakh and 36 lakh, respectively, at 3,150 per sqft.

Unitech senior vice-president Jaideep Singh said, “We acknowledge the delay and we are committed to completing the project as soon as we can.” Unitech said it has completed 700 out of the 1,600 flats.
The agitating residents asked for a rise in the amount paid to residents for the delay in construction. One of the residents said, “They are paying us only 5 per sqft per month of delay. We demand they pay 17 as they have been doing for township projects in Delhi.” Singh responded, “The project cost and rental value is different in Delhi and hence we cannot offer more.”
