NOIDA: A group of Noida residents have approached Delhi’s public works department (PWD) for an audit on the number of vehicles using the DND Flyway every day, to find whether the expenses on expressway construction and maintenance justify the toll tax charged by the operator.
According to a press note issued by the PWD, a committee has been constituted to investigate the DND issue.
The department has promised that CCTV cameras will be installed on the Delhi-end of the road to ascertain the actual revenue generated by it daily.
P S Jain, president of Confederation of NCR Residents' Welfare Associations (CONRWA), said, “The cameras would give a correct record of the number of heavy motor vehicles, four wheelers and two wheelers using the DND to commute to Delhi every day from Noida, and vice versa. It will also give a proper estimate of the revenue generated by the DND toll.”
According to residents, Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited (NTBCL) has already recovered the project cost, and should hand over the road to the Authority. They claimed NTBCL was assured of 20% per annum return on investment from the start, to be calculated on total project cost, a deal that ensures higher profit for NTBCL, more the cost.
“The DND working policy is completely against people’s interests. As the Delhi government and Noida Authority have equal stakes in the project, we approached the former for a probe. Since May, we have met the PWD minister twice. In our last meeting on July 22, we were promised that a detailed report on DND revenue will be released in 10 days,” Jain said.
When contacted, however, the PWD department stated they were not in a position to disclose any information on any meeting or its contents until a later stage.
