Industry's wait for land gets longer
NASHIK: Industries willing to set up units at the proposed additional industrial estate at Talegaon-Akrale in Dindori tehsil near Nashik may have to wait for a few more months.
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is yet to issue work orders for infrastructure development to the agencies concerned for the past couple of months, resulting in the nearly two-to-three month delay in the allotment of plots at the proposed estate.

The Nashik Industries & Manufacturers’ Association (Nima) has expressed concern over the MIDC going slow for the infrastructure development work such as building approach roads internal roads and ensuring water supply and streetlights.
The MIDC is developing the additional industrial estate on 500 acres at Talegaon-Akrale, barely 18 km from Nashik. Around four-to-five months ago, the MIDC had floated various tenders totally worth Rs 50 crore for developing various infrastructure and other works, including constructing internal roads, laying internal water pipelines, fencing for plots to be reserved for creating amenities, constructing jackwell, pump house and laying of water pipeline between the new industrial estate and Palkhed dam for water supply. But even four months since then, the MIDC is yet to issue the work orders to the agencies concerned.
Speaking to TOI, Ravi Verma, the president of Nima, said, “The MIDC does nothing in time. Earlier, it had set a target of March 31 for the creation of new additional industrial areas in Dindori tehsil. But it failed. The new industries would come if the MIDC was prompt in its work. Non-availability of land for the industries has already affected the industrial growth of Nashik. At this juncture, delay for developing the new industrial areas will affect the industrial development.”

When contacted, an official from MIDC said, “We have already finalised a tender process and have sent the proposals to our head office in Mumbai for approval before we can issue the work orders to the agencies concerned. We are expecting the approval from our head office in the next few days. Once we get it, we will immediately issue the work orders.”
The industries in Satpur and Ambad industrial estates in Nashik are fully occupied and there is no land for the existing or the new industries for any expansion project. Non-availability of land has hampered the industrial growth of Nashik. At this juncture, the new industrial estate coming up near Nashik is likely to fuel the city’s industrial growth as it will fetch an investment of crores of rupees and create new jobs.
