Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri today took stock of damages of Dadi Irrigation Canal at Sirhama. There was a breach in the canal due to recent incessant rains and flashfloods in the area.The Minister instructed the concerned Engineers to take immediate steps for restoration of the canal so as to avoid any kind of inconvenience to the farmers in the area. He also directed the concerned to take up leftover work of Lift Irrigation Canal Sirhama.District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Engineers of various Departments besides other District officers accompanied the Minister during the visit.The Minister while taking stock of other damages due to the rains, asked the concerned engineers for early repairs and restoration of roads, power and water supply in the area.
During the tour, the Minister visited several areas of Bijbehara Constituency and took stock of the people’s problems and developmental needs.The Minister gave on spot directions to various departments to redress grievances and development needs of people on priority basis. He also exhorted upon the officers to complete the ongoing projects within the stipulated time, ensuring quality as per norms.Interacting with the people during the tour, the Minister said that providing basic amenities to the people of rural and backward areas and ensuring equal opportunities of development and justice to all without any discrimination is the sanctified task of present Government which is being pursued with great consistency. The Minister reiterated the commitment of the government for holistic development of all the regions of the State with special focus on far-off and hilly areas. He said government’s pro-people policies and exemplary initiatives have placed the State on track of peace and prosperity. He affirmed that this would be carried forward with a mission to ensure all-round development of rural as well as Kandi areas.
Veeri assured the people that their genuine demands will be given due consideration and redressed in a time bound manner. He appealed to the panchs and sarpanchs to act in close coordination with the local administration in implementation of various welfare and flagship development programmes in their respective panchayats. He said government is keen to uplift the socio-economic condition of the rural masses.The Minister urged upon the administration to be more pro-active to address grievances of the people adding that the basic objective of conducting extensive tours of remote and backward areas, along with concerned engineers and officers of administration, was to take on spot assessment of problems of the people and seek their immediate solution.
