PML-N's Rana Akhtar leads the by-polls in initial results against PTI's Ehsanullah Virk

GUJRANWALA: (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Rana Akhtar Ali has on Sunday been leading the by-polls in Gujranwala PP-100 against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate Ehsanullah Virk as the vote-count continues, reported Dunya News.

Rigging allegations surfaced once again as the PTI and PML-N contested for the provincial assembly seat In Kamonke. Workers of both the parties clashed on various occasions. Several were injured in a clash at the sensitive Bharoki Virkaan polling station. Angry workers pelted stones at each other and damaged cars. They dismantled the polling camps’ tents. Finally, Rangers took control of the polling station.

Women also participated in the war of words. Harsh words were exchanged between the PML-N and PTI lady workers on Polling Station No. 106.

Workers of the two parties also clashed outside Muslim Ganj Polling Station. Protesting afterwards, the PTI workers blocked the GT Road. However, the road was restored for traffic after talks with the police.

PTI workers claimed that PML-N workers attacked them first while PML-N candidate Rana Akhtar Ali held the PTI workers responsible for the situation.

Police arrested several workers belonging to both the parties. Situation was controlled later on by the police and administration and polling was restored at many polling stations after being suspended initially.
