LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is hosting a family fishing event at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area in Cherry County.

The free event is scheduled for Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Beed’s Landing. It’s open to anyone who wants to learn how to fish or who has little fishing experience. Loaner equipment, bait and fishing instructors will be available. Fishing and park entry permits are required.

Merritt Reservoir is situated 28 miles south of Valentine.



The Nebraska Walleye Association Kids Fishing Clinics Charity and the Nebraska Walleye Trail are sponsoring a fishing tournament that earlier day. Families are invited to come early to watch the 3 p.m. weigh-in.
