Life term awarded

A 60-year-old man was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment for murdering a woman in Attur here in 2014.

The prosecution case was that R. Antonysamy (80) of Pungavadi in Attur, and Therasammal (70) had a son Chinnapaiyan who was married to Lurdumary. Antonysamy gave away 3.5 acres to Chinnapaiyan. After Chinnapaiyan’s death caused by illness, Lurdumary wanted to sell the land. But the couple objected to it.

Therasammal obtained a stay order against Lurdumary selling the land. Lurdumary sought the help of D. Selvanathan (60) of the same village. On January 13, 2014, while the couple was fast asleep, Selvanathan stabbed Therasammal to death. When Antonysamy tried to stop him, Selvanathan stabbed him too. III Additional District Judge M. Ravindran ordered him to serve 10 years rigorous imprisonment, and imposed a fine of Rs. 2,000.
