Shobha Yatra for Godavari

The 12-day Godavari Pushkaralu ended on a grand note in the district on Saturday evening.

On the last day of the mega event, ‘Shobha Yatra’ of goddess Godavari was organised here and at Pochampad and other ghats. Minister for Agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy led the procession marking the the end of the festival.

Collector D. Ronald Rose and Superintendent of Police S. Chandrashekar Reddy participated in the ‘shobha yatra’ at Pochampad.

They thanked the government staff, police personnel, volunteers and people at large for their services and cooperation for the grand success of Pushkaralu.

The ‘shobha yatra’ was held under the aegis of Indur Pushkara Samithi which provided free food to tens of thousands of pilgrims who arrived here. They also held harathi before the immersion of the idols in the river. Minister took the last Pushkar bath in the evening. He along with other officials expressed pleasure over the smooth passage of the Pushkaralu.

Minister for Endowments A. Indrakaran Reddy, Armoor MLA A. Jeevan Reddy and Mayor Akula Sujatha participated in the valedictory function at Ummeda Pushkar ghat.

Meanwhile, on the last day, a large number of pilgrims thronged all the ghats since early morning. An estimated 14 lakh pilgrims took a holy dip on Saturday.

Ministers, MLAs, MPs and other elected representatives, authorities and police machinery heaved a sigh of relief at the end of festival. Pilgrims showered praises on the TSRTC for its free shuttle services to the Pushkar ghats from alighting points.
