Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan has said that there is no question of the CPI(M) compromising with communalism of any kind.
In a statement here on Friday, Mr. Vijayan said the Sangh Parivar campaign branding the party’s secular stand as ‘pseudo-secularism’ and communal appeasement was only meant to mislead the people. The Congress was in league with the BJP and RSS in this as its goal too was to weaken the Left and make electoral gains as was seen in the Aruvikkara Assembly by-election. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s statement during the by-election campaign that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would get relegated to the third place was a case in point. The statement was a virtual call to the people to vote for either the Congress or the BJP. The election outcome shows his was a successful strategy. Yet, the BJP could finish only a distant third in the by-poll, he said.
‘Pseudo esteem’
Pointing out that an attempt to give ‘pseudo esteem’ to communal positions and declarations was on in the State, Mr. Vijayan said even leaders of organisations that function in the name of Sree Narayana Guru, who had forbade his followers from asking others about their caste identity or identifying themselves by caste, were now openly defying his teachings with the declaration that it was no sin to speak in terms of caste. This was part of the Sangh Parivar agenda to rally people belonging to different castes under the broad canvas of religion and use it for political gains. Congress was abetting the Sangh Parivar’s attempt to divide people on communal lines, he said.
The CPI(M) leader said the working class movement would not let go of its firm stand on communalism represented by the Sangh Parivar and not hesitate to do whatever it could to provide relief to those who find themselves at the receiving end of attacks from the Sangh Parivar.
