: The students of Kendriya Vidyalaya here were treated to the sights and sounds of Rajasthan by an 11-member troupe of Kalbelia singers and dancers from the State.The Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (Spicmacay), a Delhi-based NGO, brought the Kalbelia troupe to Kerala as part of promoting the country’s classical and folk arts. Deen Mohammed Khan, leader of the troupe, explained aspects of the Kalbelia dance. A Rajasthani nomadic community traditionally engaged in capturing snakes, Kalbelia’s dance and music shares similarities with snake charming. Jeet Khan led the vocals, Deen Khan accompanied with harmonium and Nihan Khan on dholak.
