Official arrested on charge of accepting bribe

Officers of the Karnataka High Court Vigilance Wing and Bidar police arrested Sharanappa Sajjan, a former judge of the civil court, in Basava Kalyan after an inquiry proved corruption charges against him.

He was arrested from his hometown of Sindhanur in Raichur district on Friday, and produced before the court of Additional District Sessions Judge G. Nanjundaiah.

He remanded the accused in judicial custody for 15 days, said Sudhir Kumar Reddy, Superintendent of Police.

Mr. Sajjan was trapped by the vigilance wing on December 23, while accepting a bribe from complainant Keertiraj Posthe.

Mr. Posthe had accused Mr. Sajjan of seeking a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh for ruling in his favour.

The arrested has been remanded in judicial custody for 15 days
