Final touches to convocation venue

Hectic efforts are under way to give final touches to the preparations for President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to take part in the Central University of Karnataka’s second convocation on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal and Superintendent of Police Amit Singh inspected the arrangements and reviewed preparations for the scheduled visit of the President, at the state-of-the-art auditorium at ESIC Medical Education Complex, where the convocation would be held.

Briefing media persons, Mr. Bansal said various committees had been constituted to manage the event. Separate seating arrangements had been made for different sections of people such as gold medal winners, students, staff, VIPs and the media who would be attending the convocation. The auditorium has a seating capacity of 1,750.

He said the President would arrive at the venue at 11 a.m. and participate in the convocation procession from the main gate to the auditorium, where the event would be held. The President would be spending one hour and 15 minutes to deliver the convocation address.

As per protocol specified by the President’s Office, six persons including Governor Vajubhai R. Vala, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Member of Parliament and Congress Leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, district in-charge Minister Qamarul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of the CUK H.M. Maheshwaraiah  and Registrar Nagaraju would share the dais with the President.

Superintendent of Police Amit Singh said the district police have started strengthening security arrangements in the city and around the venue of the convocation.

More than 600 police constables, 200 assistant sub-inspectors,  50 sub inspectors, 30 assistant inspectors  will be deployed around the venue High Security will be provided at the District Armed Reserve ground  where the helicopter would be landing.
