The small beautiful world of bonsai

: The students of K.H.M. Higher Secondary School, Valakkulam near Kottakkal, conducted an exhibition of bonsai trees on Saturday. Over a hundred varieties of bonsai trees were on display as students, parents and teachers from neighbourhoods queued up to take a glimpse.

The programme was conducted by the National Haritha Sena of the school. The students explained the process of dwarfing the trees to the visitors. Among the bonsai trees on display were different types of ficus and pines and some as old as 40 years. All of them were given names in Malayalam. Bonsai experts such as Suresh Malappuram, Shafeek Clari, Mustafa Mundasseri and Thwalhath Mohammed helped the students. They taught the students how to take care of bonsai trees.

Purogamana Kalasahithya Sangham general secretary Basheer Chungathara inaugurated the exhibition. Clari led a class on the world of bonsai. Tennala panchayat president Matholi Nafeesu, Ashraf Thennala, agriculture officer P. Nimmi, P.K. Mohammed Basheer, P. Sainuddin, K.P. Shaniyas and T. Mohammed addressed the students.
