PMK demands release of convicts in Rajiv assassination case

July 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - CHENNAI:

PMK leader S. Ramadoss has demanded the release of all the seven convicts in te Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, including Murugan, Perarivalan, Santhan and Nalini, in the wake of new revelations made by former CBI officer V. Thiyagarajan.

Recalling Mr. Thiyagarajan’s interview to a satellite channel that he altered the statement of Perarivalan, who had bought batteries for the LTTE assassins, to implicate in the case, Dr. Ramadoss said if Perarivalan’s statement had been reordered properly, he would have been acquitted from the case.

“Besides, Mr. Thiyagaran has expressed his plan to file an affidavit in the Supreme Court. He has also referred to the alleged role of the Mossad in the assassination. His interview completely shattered the basis of the case,” Dr. Ramdsoss said in a statement.

The filing of appeal by the Centre against the release of Murugan, Santhan and Perarivalan was against natural justice, Dr. Ramadoss said, urging the Centre and the State governments to take steps to release them.
