LUDHIANA: To avoid fleecing of visitors at Ferozpur Road parking lots, the municipal corporation (MC) introduced e-ticketing machines on Saturday for issuing parking receipts to the visitors. A total of 10 machines have been provided to the contractor by the civic body.
After the introduction of automated machines entire information regarding the parking contract, including the parking rates applicable, the entry and exit time, will be printed on the receipt bringing down the possibility of overcharging by the contractors.

It should be noted that the civic body had received various complaints in the past regarding overcharging by contractors at parking lots which sometimes also ended up in scuffle between visitors and men on duty.
Now, other market associations are also demanding introduction of these machines at other parking lots as overcharging is prevalent there as well.
General secretary, traders and property owners association Feroze Gandhi market, Kawaljit Singh Monga said the contractor tears down the part of slip where parking rates are printed and then overcharge from the visitors.
Further, he said that many shopkeepers have also given their complaints regarding overcharging done by the contractors and we demand that automated machines should be introduced. The MC has also failed to install boards giving information about the parking rates applicable according to the contract, he added.
Meanwhile, zonal commissioner of MC, PS Ghuman said that at present they have introduced the machines at Ferozpur Road only, and it will soon be introduced at other parking lots.
