KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers informed an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday about the 90-day preventive detention of a cable giant and three others for questioning about their alleged involvement in terrorist activities.
The officials of the paramilitary force along with their legal team presented Imran Haider Abidi alias Imran Don, Hasan Abbas Zaidi, Sajid Tirmizi and Fahimuddin before the ATC-I.
Abidi, who is the chief executive officer and owner of the Home Vision cable television network that operates in a large part of the city, was reportedly taken into custody along with others in a raid at his office in Malir on July 14. He was presented before the court 10 days after his arrest.
The suspects were brought to the court blindfolded and handcuffed amid tight security of the paramilitary Rangers. The hearing took place inside the chamber of the ATC-I judge, Bashir Ahmed Khoso.
According to informed sources, the paramilitary personnel submitted detention orders issued by a brigadier-ranked sector commander of the Rangers and jail warrants of the suspects to the court.
The Rangers contended that they had credible information against the suspects for their alleged involvement in target killings and other such acts. Therefore, they were being grilled for three months under section 11EEEE of the Anti-Terrorism Act for interrogation. The suspects are said to be affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
