A leopard that accidentally fell in to a deep dry well in a farm in Leriya village under Visavadar taluka of Junagadh district of Gujarat was today rescued safely by the forest department, official sources said.
The five year old leopard was most likely running after any wild animal in the dark of night when it would have lost control and fallen in to the 45 feet deep well situated in the farm of local farmer Gordhan Dobaria, Mr R D Vansh, local Range Forest Officer who led the rescue operation of the beast said.
‘On the information from Dobaria we arrived here and safely pulled the trapped leopard out following a four hour long operation. The animal was given a sedative injection shot to make it unconscious and later two of our men went down and tied it with a rope following which the leopard was pulled out,’ the RFO said.
The leopard was later sent to the animal care center at Shashan Gir in neighbouring Gir Somnath district.
