Industrial estate being shelved in favour of steel plant, alleges Shettar

Published - July 25, 2015 03:33 pm IST - BENGALURU:

Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar alleged that the government was trying to hand over 104 acres of land acquired in Koppal for setting up an industrial estate to a steel plant of the Baldota Mining Company.

Participating in a debate on demand for grants to various departments in the Assembly, Mr. Shettar alleged the land had been allocated to various small industrial units for setting up their enterprises at the industrial estate being developed by Karnataka Small Scale Industries Development Corporation.

But, the Baldota company had submitted an application to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah requesting him to sanction the land for expanding its steel plant, he said. The Chief Minister had asked officials to examine the application, following which the officials had stalled the industrial estate project, he alleged.

He also alleged that no efforts were being made in the State, especially in the northern region, to attract industries.
