Bronze medal for Amandeep in international Wushu

For a country which is mad for cricket, a medal in any other sport will come as a delight. A pleasant surprise was on its way to Ahmedabad when the city lad Amandeep Singh brought laurels to the country as the teenager won a bronze medal in the recently concluded 8th International Wushu Tournament in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.

AHMEDABAD: For a country which is mad for cricket, a medal in any other sport will come as a delight. A pleasant surprise was on its way to Ahmedabad when the city lad Amandeep Singh brought laurels to the country as the teenager won a bronze medal in the recently concluded 8th International Wushu Tournament in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.
Amandeep won bronze in 65-70 kg weight category in the age group of above 18 years.
His was one of the three bronze medals that the Indian team won in the tournament, along with a silver.
The teenager said that he had a good tournament until he ran into Iranian in the semifinal where he lost and had to settle for the third spot. "It was a tough match and I must say I was completely overpowered," he added.
What surprised the student of Lokmanya College of Commerce was the extremely high level of competition from the fighters from Muslim countries. He said that these nations have players with high level of endurance and a physique very suitable for this sport.
