The local unit of the Congress launched a membership drive and held a ‘Jana Spandana’ programme here on Friday.

The former leader of the Opposition in the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation council Deepak Chinchore listed out the welfare programmes launched by the State government. He said that the party was continuously making efforts to provide basic facilities in the twin cities.

Mr. Chinchore said that because of the initiatives taken by the Congress government, every district in the State was now getting a hi-tech hospital; ration cards were being distributed to lakhs of eligible families; and the poor were getting foodgrains at subsidised rates. He appealed to the people to evaluate the performance of the government on the basis of its pro-people initiatives.
