Attack on auto driver: gang nabbed

July 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Peroorkada police have on Friday nabbed a gang of five, some of whom have crime records spanning over a decade, in connection with the attack on an autorickshaw driver at Vazhayila on June 8.

The police said the accused – Saikumar alias Dinkan, 30 of Vellanadu; Sumesh alias ‘Thavala Sumesh’, 25, of Chakka; Vishnuprabha alias Sujith, 27, of Chakka; Riju, 23, of Kadakampally; and Amal, 22, of Anayara – had attacked Rajesh, 35, of Anadu, an autorickshaw driver on June 8 after calling him on a trip to Vazhayila from Peroorkada.

It is believed that Saikumar and Vishnuprabha were advised by Rajesh against buying prescription drugs that had sedative and intoxicating effects, and the two, when another friend refused to give them a prescription, thought that it was Rajesh who was behind the refusal.

They then called Rajesh on his mobile, asking him to reach Vazhayila.

From there, as he took them on a trip, the rest of the gang came on motorbikes and assaulted him.
