MLA’s sit-in for road repair

July 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - ALAPPUZHA:

Kuttanad MLA, Thomas Chandy, organised a sit-in on the road at Pacha, Edathua, on Friday in protest against the non-repair of the Thakazhy-Edathua road.

He withdrew the agitation, which lasted several hours, after the authorities promised to repair the road before the end of the month. The road had been damaged when pipelines were laid to carry water from Parumala to Alappuzha for a drinking water scheme.

Assurance

Mr. Chandy said the roads were in disrepair for the past seven months. The Public Works Department (PWD) Chief Engineer who visited the MLA is understood to have given an assurance to repair the road without delay.

A meeting is to be convened by the Public Works Minister in Thiruvananthapuram next week to resolve the issue.
