DKA asks again for equal status to Konkani in Roman script
QUEPEM: Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) has petitioned chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar reiterating its demand to accord equal status to Konkani in Roman script along with the Devnagri script.
The memorandum signed by president of Dalgado Konknni Akademi Premanand Lotlikar, and also submitted to minister for official language Milind Naik, stated that writers, poets, tiatr artistes, artistes from folk culture, representatives of various institutions and well wishers of Konkani in Roman script express their resentment over Konkani in Roman script not being recognized in the Official Language Act, 1987, by the government of Goa.

DKA ‘s demand follows a demand by a pro-Marathi group demanding equal status to Marathi in the Official Language Act.
The memorandum stated that the Official Language Act was passed largely due to the massive support and sacrifices of the lovers of Konkani in Roman script, even at the cost of their lives. Unfortunately the Official Language Act, 1987 does not give any status to Konkani in Roman script.
As the Goa Assembly session is approaching fast, DKA has requested Parsekar to get their demand approved by the House.
The DKA delegation that submitted the memorandum includes Premanand Lotlikar,Tomazinho Cardozo, Vincy Quadros and Walter Menezes.
