Sensex closes in red on global weaknesses

New Delhi, Jul 24 (UNI) Sensex today extended its loss and fell more than 258 points as selling pressure was seen in Bankex, Capital Goods, Metal and Power stocks. The benchmark index closed the day at 28,112.31 while Nifty fell by 68.25 points to settle at 8,521.55. The Sensex registered day high and low at 28,402.64 and 28,083.76 points respectively. The Nifty registered day high and low at 8,589.15 and 8,513.50 points respectively. However, ICICI Bank, Wipro, Lupin, Tata Motors and Gail India dropped down to be the top losers of the day. Meanwhile,Sun Pharma,MotoCorp, Cipla and TCS were among the few gainers of the Indian stock market. Trends in the global market were negative on concerns of poor corporate earnings in the US.
