Piled up garbage following the ongoing strike by GVMC workers is leaving a poor image of the city on investors and visitors, and the strike has to be resolved at the earliest, Visakha North MLA and honorary president of workers’ union P. Vishnu Kumar Raju has said.

Taking up the issue with HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P. Narayana, he has sought a meeting with Mr. Narayana before the State Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on Wednesday at Rajahmundry.

He took a delegation of the GVMC Employees’ JAC, led by its chairman V.V. Vamana Rao, to Rajahmundry on Tuesday evening.

“We are hoping for a positive outcome of the talks,” the MLA told The Hindu .

On Tuesday, Mr. Vishnu Kumar Raju deployed his own tippers and earthmoving machinery to clear the solid waste from his constituency to make the union’s intentions clear that they would not obstruct cleaning up operations taken up by any NGO or group of citizens.

“Voluntary organisations are welcome to take up Swacch Bharat campaign and they would not be obstructed,” he asserted.
