Comedian Tanmay Bhat of AIB took to Twitter to express his anger over the comedy group being refused permission to shoot a video at Mumbai's Mithibai college.
Bhat, co-founder of AIB, is a former student of the college.
On Wednesday, Bhat said on the micro-blogging platform-
Dear Mithibai college principal who won't let us shoot because "I don't want us to be associated with these AIB people" -

He further added,
I spent to years in your college. I am a by-product of your college. So there's your association.

The group is infamous for its AIB Knockout roast of actors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh which was hosted by Karan Johar, and included several other well known Indian comedians. The videos of the roast went viral on the internet but also drew the comedy group a lot of flak. An FIR was filed against them for putting up a pre-scripted performance of a vulgar and obscene programme and putting up the performance on the internet.
Facing outrage from several quarters, the group was forced to take down videos of the event off YouTube. The group also tendered an unconditional apology for their act, including an apology letter to the Archbishop of Mumbai.
Tanmay Bhat has 7,10,000 followers on Twitter and his tweet about Mithibai college's response was quick to garner all kinds of responses. Some were outraged, while others were downright surprised.
@thetanmay we faced the same issue during the education sketch at Jai Hind. "You will spoil the college's name"

@thetanmay WTF. U KIDDING ME. Why would a college not be happy for their ex student. Nonsense.

Several students of Mithibai college responded to Bhat.
@iamviraj123 Sigh, please don't turn it into a big deal, kabhi aur karenge :)

@yashaswi_shah Nahi nahi, please its no biggie. Just thought it was ironic to not want an association given that I am from there.

Students from other colleges invited him to come and shoot at their campus.
@thetanmay pls come to KJ somaiya.... We won't dissapoint you

Some missed the point, and instead picked on a spelling mistake in his tweet.
@thetanmay and he doesn't want anyone to know that his students can't spell "two"

Despite outrage and support from several people, Bhat said he was simply trying to point out the irony of the situation.
