Amidst heavy rains in Kashmir valley, multiple cloud bursts occurred in various parts of the region including in border district of Kupwara on Thursday.According to GNS correspondent, heavy rains lashed the valley parts including summer capital here today early morning amid lightening and thunders. As the heavy rains were underway, multiple cloud bursts occurred in Kupwara district including at Lalpora, Kralpora and Muqam-i- Shahwali.Locals of Muqam Shah Wali area of the district told Srinagar-based news agency, GNS that the cloud burst occurred in the morning at 8:30 am and it inundated many localities of the area. The water entered into houses, cowsheds and paddy fields in these areas and several people were stuck as the flow of the water was very high.

The locals said that they themselves launched rescue operation and rescued several trapped persons including children and women. “The administration and police arrived in our localities after they were informed about the situation,” the locals said. The cloud burst has caused damage to properties of people and also to paddy fields.The local Tehsildar, Station House Officer Asif Iqbal and R&B Engineer Khursheed Ahmad took stock of the situation personally at Muqam Shah Wali. A team of R&B employees cleaned the local Nallah from mud and other wastes till evening.In the meantime, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara immediately deputed a team of revenue officials and police which was headed by Tehsildar Nazir Ahmad to take stock of the situation. Immediately, the team ordered and supervised cleaning of a local nallah from Kumar mohalla to Lone mohalla. While hailing the efforts of the officials, the locals also staged protest and demanded that the rubble should be removed from the Nallah and there should be concrete embankment constructed so that people are saved in future from the further damage.

The locals of Kumar Mohalla, Hajam Mohalla, Pir Mohalla and Dawood Colony urged concerned R&B minister, MLA concerned and Deputy Commissioner Kupwara to fulfill their demand within short possible time. The locals also demanded government to restore potable water supply which according to them has suffered damage due to the cloud burst.       

Meanwhile, in separate incidents, the cloud bursts also hit Kralpora, Lalpora, Keegam, Kandi and Drugmulla areas of the Kupwara. There were no reports of loss of lives or property. A poultry farm in Garand Kalan village of Chadoora in Budgam district was washed away after a cloud burst hit the area.Due to heavy rainfall, the streets and roads in Srinagar became waterlogged at multiple places including at Jehangir Chowk, Exhibition Crossing, Sarai Bala, Khanyar, Nallah Mar Road Court Road and scores other places. The residential colonies at Bemina, HMT, Qamarwari and adjoining areas were also waterlogged. The weatherman predicted more rainfall in next 24 hours across the State. (GNS)
