2 militants killed, Major among 3 soldiers injured in Keran gunfight

Two militants were killed and three army men including Major sustained bullet injuries in an ongoing encounter along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.A senior army official told Global News Service (GNS) that army’s 26 Rajput manning the fence at Eagle Post had spotted some suspicious movement on Wednesday morning and launched cordon-and-search operation in the area.As the forces intensified the searches in the area, the infiltrators hiding in the forest area last night had opened heavy fire upon them. The troops retaliated, ensuing a gunfight, they said.Following the exchange of fire, the infiltrators had managed to give slip to the forces, they said.

Later in the day, the troops along with the additional reinforcement launched the massive searches to track down the militant group.Today early in the morning, the forces along with the reinforcement again intercepted the militant group in the dense forest area. After being intercepted, the militant group tried to break the cordon; however, the forces engaged them in a gunfight, the official said.

In the exchange of fresh firing, two unidentified militants were killed and three army men Maj Akash Ashok Tapadia (belt no. 70967A), Sepoy Balbeer Singh (belt no. 3007380P) and Sepoy Ranjeet Kumar (Belt No. 3006525H) received bullet injuries, he said.All the injured were immediately shifted to military hospital Drugmulla where from they were removed to army’s 92 base hospital Srinagar for treatment, he said.“The bodies of two militants along with two AK-47 rifles have been recovered however, identification and affiliated outfit is yet to be ascertained”, he added.
