There was panic and chaos at villages in Mansa district as news spread of the bus accident in Himachal. Of the 52 bus passengers on a religious tour to Manikaran, 14 were from Joga village in Mansa and till late evening, three from the village had contacted their homes.
Six villagers were from neighbouring Makha Chehlan village and only one of them, Golu, had called up home to say he was safe. All those on the bus from these two villages are men in the 25-35 year age group.
About 13 of the bus passengers are from Jaga Ram Teerath village in Talwandi Sabo constituency of Bathinda district. One Gurnam Kaur is the only one from here to have called back home to inform her relatives that she is safe.

A few were from Lelewala village also in Talwandi Sabo while the bus driver is from Barnala district.
Councillors of Joga Municipal Council Rajinder Singh Mintu and Malkit Singh said the pilgrims left here on July 21. Both are on their way to Kullu along with a few of the family members of those missing.
Bhupinder Singh Rai and Basant Garg, deputy commissioners of Mansa and Bathinda respectively, have been sent alerts and were seeking details of the passengers till the filing this report.
Meanwhile the proprietor of Guru Kirpa Transport that owns the bus, Makiat Singh, said: “I am also on my way to Kullu to find out details. I am too shocked to hear about this unfortunate accident. A total of 52 passengers had gone in this bus”.
