AHMEDABAD: The alleged threat letter received by women cell police officials probing the Asaram and Narayan Sai rape cases is suspected to have been posted from Meghaninagar area of the city.
Crime branch officials said the stamp on the back side of the letter has “Meghaninagar” written on it.
“However for confirmation, we have written to the post master general’s office” said a senior crime branch official.

According to police sources, ACP Kanan Desai and inspector DB Ravia of women police station, were provided personnel security officers, both at their residence and in person, after the attacks on witnesses of the Asaram and Narayan Sai rape cases.
On July 8, an anonymous letter was received at the women police station. “The letter which runs into four to five lines was written in Hindi but read as Gujarati. It stated that ACP Kanan Desai and inspector DB Ravia have harassed many connected to Asaram and hence will be dealt with” said a crime branch source.
The letter was brought to the notice of deputy commissioner of police, crime branch Deepan Bhadran and was then forwarded to the police commissioner’s office.

Police officials said Ravia had earlier applied for arm license for herself and father. “However, her application was sent back with queries regarding need for her father to have arm license and also why does she needs one when she has a service revolver” said a senior police official.
Crime branch officials said they are also looking for footage from CCTV cameras installed in shops near Meghaninagar post office and also in the areas where post boxes are installed.
“We want to go to the source of the letter to nail the culprit. We have also beefed up the security of the both the police officers after the threat letter” said a senior police official.
