HC relief for student with low vision
BENGALURU: The high court on Thursday directed the authorities to provide a scribe to V Prithviraj Aithal, 24, who has 75% low vision, during the civil judges recruitment examination on July 25.
Passing an interim order, Justice Raghvendra S Chauhan asked the authorities to allow him extra time to finish the examination. He said the state has a duty to provide equal opportunities to the disabled under the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995.
" We are dealing with humans, not robots. We have to be like a lighthouse showing the path for others," the judge reminded the authorities.
The court had said Aithal couldn't be given a scribe as he had applied under the GM category. Aithal has sought an increase in the quota for the disabled and reservation for visually challenged candidates in civil judges' selection.
