Sanjeev Manikyeshwar, head of the Kuditini plant of ACC Ltd., has exhorted students to inculcate the habit of reading newspapers not only to enrich general knowledge but also to learn to speak and write English properly.
He was speaking after distributing The Hindu Young World, a weekly newspaper for children, to students at Government High School at Kuditini in Ballari district on Thursday.
“Learning English has become inevitable in this era of competition. Learning the language properly will help you understand the subjects as you take up higher studies. Don’t be under the impression that learning English is tough. It may seem difficult in the beginning, but gradually you will realise that it is very easy.
“I compliment The Hindu , a leading national newspaper with credibility, for coming out with the school edition and appeal to the students to come up in life by studying well,” he said.
Kalavathi, principal, was of the view that the students were lucky as they were being provided with these facilities and newspapers by ACC Ltd. She promised the students that the teaching staff would be willing to help them if they came across difficult words. Badreshwar, president, Forum for Rural Development, which takes care of the CSR activities of ACC, Kuditini; G. Hanumanthappa, president, school development and management Committee; Bikki Srinivas, philanthropist; Peddanna, Manager ACC (CSR); R. Bheemalingappa; and Appanna Maitri, Circulation Executive, The Hindu, were present among others.
The ACC Cement Kuditini Plant, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities, has sponsored around 400 copies of The Hindu Young World to students in Kuditini and Siddamanahalli.
