Distribution of subsidised kerosene to fishermen through a streamlined channel will be launched in the district by Minister for Fisheries K. Babu at a function to be held at the Neendakara harbour complex in the evening on July 24.
The kerosene with subsidy will be sold at Rs.25 a litre and is meant for being used as fuel in traditional fishing crafts.
Depending upon the engine capacity of their boats, each eligible fisherman will be given a quantity of kerosene ranging from 140 litres to 190 litres a month.
Protests
Fishermen across the State have been agitating since the last couple of months demanding prompt supply of subsidised kerosene for their livelihood purposes.
The distribution had gone awry for various reasons and fishermen were dependent on the black market paying even Rs.100 a litre.
Kerosene booths
Twelve kerosene booths are being opened for the nine littoral districts.
The inaugural function will be presided over by Minister for Labour Shibu Baby John.
N.K. Premachandran, MP, will distribute the kerosene cards and P.K. Gurudasan, MLA, will distribute the cheques claimed under the accident insurance policy.
