July 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Tirupur:

Corporation Commissioner M. Ashokan said that the administration would open 12 bridges, coming up on a total outlay of Rs. 11 crore, within six months.

“Of the 12 bridges, the works on 10 structures are in advanced stages,” he said soon after the bhoomi puja for the other two bridges which the Corporation is constructing across the Jamunai Odai and Sankalipallam Odai, the two tributaries of River Noyyal, on Thursday.

The earlier causeway across the Jamunai Odai and the pipe culvert situated across the Sankalipallam Odai, which had been used by people for crossover, were washed in the rain which necessitated the construction of the new structures.

Mr. Ashokan said that both the bridges would be of 21 m in length and 12 m in width with a vehicle riding surface of 9 m. Mayor A. Visalakshi, MLA (Tirupur North) M.S.M. Anandan, Deputy Mayor S. Gunasekaran and elected representatives were present during the bhoomi puja.
